On Saturday, large crowds gathered at Trinity Bellwoods Park despite social distancing bylaws. As Toronto began reopening recreational areas, Mayor John Tory visited different city parks with Councillor Joe Cressy and Medical Officer of Health Dr. Eileen de Villa to see how people were using the public spaces and amenities. Mayor Tory is critical of the open disregard for distancing measures and stated that there would be a heavier presence of bylaw officers on Sunday. He urges Toronto citizens to “think about this carefully, and tomorrow, do better than you did today” amidst the health emergency that still continues in Toronto. Many have taken to Twitter and social media platforms to express disappointment of the “dangerous and selfish behaviour” seen at Trinity Bellwoods Park on Saturday.
