On March 31, 2020, Premier Ford extended the closure of schools and child care centres under the advice of the Chief Medical Officer of Health. This means the earliest expected return to school date for public school students is now Monday, May 4, 2020. Private schools, licensed child care centres and EarlyON programs will remain closed until at least April 13th based on the two-week period set in the Declaration of Emergency. Select child care centres remain open for frontline healthcare workers and first responders. The Ministry of Education will also support secondary school students to ensure their graduation is not impacted by current restrictions. The provincial government is also launching the Learn at Home program which aims to set priorities for teacher-led learning for each grade level, train educators on virtual learning delivery, and distribute laptops and/or devices from schools as needed.
