There are more than 10 million COVID-19 cases worldwide.
In the US, infections in 29 of the 50 states are increasing, and had their largest daily increase in cases, 44,000, this past Friday. The Republican governors of Florida, Texas and Arizona, three of the five states with the largest number of infections, have been criticised for pushing for aggressive reopenings following lockdown. Moreover, given the resurgence of COVID-19 cases in the US, Americans will be unable to travel to European Union countries according to the new travel rules.
Both India and Brazil are attempting to control outbreaks of more than 10,000 new cases per day, accounting for more than a third of all new cases in the last week. China has imposed a strict lockdown in the province surrounding the capital, Beijing, due to a new coronavirus cluster. Neighbouring province, Hebei, has also seen cases in the last few weeks. In Victoria, Australia, a drastic increase in infections in the last two weeks has led to mandatory testing of returning travellers. In Melbourne, Australia, authorities are considering stay-at-home orders and sub-urban lockdowns to control several coronavirus clusters. Ireland is seeing an increase in infections in younger people, as seen in other countries. These increases are due to decreasing adherence to physical distancing requirements. In Czech Republic, there has been an increase in daily cases in Karviná, an eastern mining region. Massive testing is being conducted in the most affected region.
