Coronavirus cases have hit 10 million worldwide. Where do we go from here?

As of Sunday, there have been over 10 million lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus globally, six months after the first case was reported in Wuhan, China. Most countries that were hit hard by COVID-19 near the beginning of the year have slowly flattened their curves. However, Latin America, Russia, and India continue to struggle with increasing numbers of cases, while the United States—currently the most infected country—has reported over 2.5 million cases. COVID-19 modellers suggest the true global case count could be up to 20 times higher than lab-reported numbers. Widespread testing has been proposed as key to detecting future hotspots quickly and determining where resources should be allocated in the future.
