UK’s COVID-19 alert level is lowered from 4 to 3

Endorsed by all four chief medical officers, the UK has lowered its nation-wide COVID-19 alert level from 4 to 3. This means that the transmission of the virus is no longer found to be “high or exponentially rising”. The latest government estimates suggest that the reproduction number of the virus, or R, is hovering just below 1 in most parts of the country. According to the education secretary, all children will return to school in September. Many businesses in the hospitality and retail sectors continue to await guidelines and easing of restrictions to restart operations.
