Health Canada has authorized the first COVID-19 serological test to be used in Canada in order to detect antibodies to the novel coronavirus. The test is called the LIAISON test and was developed by the biotech company DiaSorin. Health Canada informs that the test will help us better understand whether people who have been infected with the virus are immune to it, and the relationship between having antibodies and protection against reinfection. Health Canada also stated that at least one million blood samples will be collected and tested over the next two years in order to track the virus both in the general population and in groups at higher risk of infection. This testing is expected to help inform public health decisions and expedite the supply of safe health products.
