Trump clarifies that coronavirus task force will ‘continue on indefinitely’

In a series of tweets today, U.S. President Donald Trump has clarified that the White House coronavirus task force is going to continue its work and focus on vaccines and therapeutics. These clarifications come after President Trump suggested earlier this week that the task force may wind down its operations. The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation has recently predicted that the number of deaths in the U.S. could reach 135,000 by early August with the loosening of restrictions. U.S. officials have stated that the Trump administration was committed to speeding up vaccine search efforts and has a goal of producing 100 million doses by the fall and 300 million doses by the end of 2020. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar has stated that the goal is realistic, but that it is not guaranteed.
