WHO situation report – March 27

As of March 27, the total global number of COVID-19 cases has surpassed 500,000 with two countries seeing their first outbreaks. Since the announcement of a pandemic, there has been an increase in the number of countries (136) that have implemented additional health measures to interfere with international traffic. The United Nations World Tourism Organization has launched a Crisis Committee to review the impact of the outbreak on airline, shipping and tourism industries and to propose solutions for recovery. OpenWHO, an interactive, multilingual, web-based platform providing online courses for management of health emergencies has now surpassed 1 million enrolments internationally. WHO risk assessment for COVID-19 as of March 27, 2020 is Very High and they continue to recommend interrupting human-to-human transmission through social distancing and early isolation of known cases.
