With over 552,000 tests completed across the United States by March 26th, the country now leads with more than 86,000 cases and has surpassed Italy (80,589 cases) and China (81,897 cases). The US President has been criticized for his optimistic goal of loosening restrictions by Easter (April 12th) after implementing federal guidelines for a 15-day period of social distancing on March 16th. Trump continues to plan the release of new social distancing guidelines with different recommendations depending on the level of risk within a specific geographic region. States such as Iowa, Idaho, Nebraska and parts of Texas could be some of the first to “reopen”. This comes contrary to emerging evidence which shows a predicted 80,000 deaths within the country over the next four months even if social distancing is practiced.
